Recycling Tip #3

Submitted by Belle Auld

Recycling tip

Kleenex Boxes (facial tissue)

  • remove the plastic window from the box

  • bundle the plastic with other plastic bags and collect in a plastic bag until it is full, then tie bag closed and put it in blue recycling cart

  • fold cardboard Kleenex box and put it in blue recycling cart

Kleenex

Most clean or used Kleenex (and toilet paper) can go in our green composting cart, except Kleenex with:

  • blood

  • makeup

  • cleaning products or

  • other chemicals

These do NOT go in our green cart. They go in the black garbage cart.

The City also recommends that we do not put facial tissue (instead of toilet paper) down our toilets – they say Kleenex is harmful to our pipes and the environment.

BULK PURCHASE OFFER!!

Are you interested in a furnace based humidifier?  A water-softener?  My application for these improvements has just been granted, and the provider has offered a lower price if more than 5 units are installed at the same time.  I am currently looking for interested members/units who would like to improve their home experience with these one or both these items.  Please contact Sarah 403 918 3421 or message me on Facebook if you're interested (this does not commit you to install).

Do you suffer from dry, cracked skin, bleeding noses, static electric shocks when you touch a light switch?  These are all symptoms of air that is too dry and can easily be remedied with a furnace-based humidifier.

*** Costs will be borne by individual members, but you can use your unit fund to off-set the cost.

*** An application for built-in dishwasher was granted in 2015... apply for yours now!

Do you know where your main water shut off is? Every unit has one and it is important for you, other residents and house sitters to know where it is. Almost without exception you will find something like this inside the utility area of the basement. It will be close to the breaker panel, and washer/dryer hook ups. If you can’t find it, it may be behind some boxes or appliances. Make sure the water shut off is accessible in an emergency and that members of your household know where it is.

How to clean hair from your bathtub drain. This is handy to know about if your bathtub drain is a little slow. This is one quick fix that anybody can do and it saves the co-op the cost of having a plumber come to do this.

1) Gather your supplies, Lots of paper towel, a slot screw driver and needle nose pliers. Do not use tweezers for this job because if you drop them into the drain you’ll have to call the plumber.

2) Turn the knob counter clockwise until it comes off.
